Bingo Gambling Laws

Bingo laws in Florida have often been argued as being too loose. Even though the game of Bingo is clearly defined, and the organizations whom can host bingo are quite clear, the actual running and donation of proceeds to community focuses groups lends itself to the potential abuse of the system.

It is defined that permitted organizations are charitable, non-profit and veterans’ organizations that can host bingo games to raise funds. These funds (net of expenses) must be donated to groups with charitable causes and not for profit making. Therefore funds are usually donated to religious, education, community service, civic and other organizations that serve the people of Florida.

It is the area of expenses that isn’t clearly defined in the law, which means employees and other costs could be excessively spent on, thereby using monies which could have gone to charity, being used for the operators of the bingo parlor’s self gain.

Now admittedly, most employees are volunteers at bingo parlors and generally operating costs are kept to a minimum, but it’s not clear cut in the State Laws.

In many ways, mitigating the potential exposure to abusing system, the law defines jackpots of being $250 or less, awarded no more than three times in a day. This helps reduce the size of proceeds to a degree.
