Boeing 777x Lufthansa
On Thursday, Carsten Spohr, Chairman of the Executive Board & CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, announced at an annual press conference that Lufthansa will base the first new Boeing 777-9 aircraft in Frankfurt. The Boeing 777-9 will replace Lufthansa’s aging Boeing 747-400 fleet. Lufthansa has ordered 20 of the new jets with the first delivery due in the second half of 2020. In November 2017 Lufthansa unveiled their new Business Class product, which will be introduced in the Boeing 777-9.

All flights, except for the first flight, have been conducted from either Boeing Field just south of Seattle or Spokane, WA. Highlights to come will be the first flight of the second 777X, N779XX and the roll out from the paint hangar of the first Emirates and Lufthansa 777X aircraft.
- First indications are that Lufthansa's Boeing 777X premium economy seat will come with a larger video screen and a larger storage nook below that upsized display, as well as a full-height panel between the aisle passenger and the aisle itself.
- Lufthansa Boeing 777X Lufthansa Group is considering ordering the Boeing 787 to complement its long-haul fleet according to its CEO Carsten Spohr. “The Boeing 787 would be an alternative to ordering more A350s, for which we still have options”, said Spohr in an exclusive interview with Airlineratings.com on the sidelines of a conference.
Boeing 777x Model
Spohr also announced that two additional Airbus A380-800s will be moved in Munich as of summer 2020. Lufthansa is currently using five Airbus A380-800s from their southern Germany hub, connecting Munich with Miami, Hong Kong
On Wednesday, the Lufthansa Group announced an order 40 more long-haul aircraft, increasing the order book to 72 long-haul planes.
The Boeing 777-9 is the larger version in the new 777X family. It’s the newest family of twin-aisle airplanes that builds on the passenger-preferred and market-leading Boeing 777 and 787 families. The Boeing 777-9 has a length of 77 m (252 ft) and an extended wingspan of 72 m (236 ft). On the ground, the wings can be folded upwards to reduce the wingspan to only 65 m (213 ft). The range of the new aircraft is given to 14,075 km (7,600 nm) and the usual seat configuration in a two-class layout allows 400 to 425 seats according to Boeing.
Lufthansa will configure its 777-9 in a three-class layout with a Business Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class. According to Lufthansa, the new Business Class will feature between 30 and 45 seats. It has not yet published how many seats they will use in the other two classes.

LE BOURGET, France -- GE Aviation and Lufthansa Technik AG enlarge their collaboration on Boeing 777X MRO services. The companies have signed a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) agreement under which Lufthansa Technik will be GE’s authorized service provider for the backup generator/converter (BUG and BUC) and for certain Electrical Load Management Systems (ELMS) components on the new Boeing 777X aircraft. This long-term cooperation will cover the maintenance service offerings, warranty support and 24/7 asset exchange/loan services to worldwide 777X operators.

Lufthansa Technik is strategically positioned to support the 777X customers and our GE Power components with high-tech quality repairs and overhaul services. Lufthansa Technik also brings a breadth of engineering expertise and extensive experience in maintaining civil electrical generators along with their global logistics network to provide seamless support to our mutual customers,” said Joe Krisciunas, General Manager – GE Aviation Electrical Power Systems.

I am very pleased that we could further extend the long-standing relationship between GE and Lufthansa Technik. Together, we will generate additional customer value by combining GE’s vast experience in design and product engineering with Lufthansa Technik’s comprehensive strengths in repair development, MRO, and the management and handling of valuable assets.”
Lufthansa is currently one of the launch customers for the new Boeing 777X aircraft with 20 total aircraft ordered. Boeing offers the 777X in several passenger aircraft configurations all powered by the GE9X engine.
Under the agreement, Lufthansa Technik will provide various 777X power component MRO services, including OEM approved repairs, warranty corrections and component modifications on behalf of GE. Lufthansa Technik will also provide and maintain a global pool of spares to support AOG services and offer customers exchanges and or loans while their GE power components are being repaired. These serviceable spare components will be available to worldwide customers on a 24/7 support basis and be deployed in several stocking locations worldwide within Lufthansa Technik’s vast global component supply network.
